Rosemary

Do you prize loyalty in a dog? Check. Are you looking for an affectionate companion who is happiest laying at your feet while you work or go about your daily routine? Check. A dog who will run right up to strangers? Um, that’s going to be a hard pass!

Rosemary is a gorgeous, doe eyed boxer mix who we saved while *very* pregnant from a shelter; she gave birth to 13 puppies in her foster’s home a week later! And was an excellent and devoted mom.

We don’t know a ton about her background but we know she came from an overpopulation situation... and her behavior suggests she has not always been treated kindly by humans. Although she bonded very very quickly to her foster mom, she is skittish around others and will flinch at scary noises or movements (such as an upraised hand). She is fully house trained and does well in a crate, although she prefers a dog bed under her foster’s desk. She shows a strong desire to play with other dogs but can be easily frightened by them, so would do best as an only dog.

The thing she needs most in a forever home? Compassion. It is heartbreaking to watch this proud dog - when trotting happily around the yard she is absolutely regal - shrink away in fear if her foster grabs a broom or if she hears a sports-game-inspired yell from the next room. She has made great progress in accepting treats from/becoming comfortable around visitors and will need someone who can continue her positive reinforcement training!

If you feel the same pull that her foster mom did when you see that sweet face, please apply today!
